What is the New Jersey Coastal Communiversity?
The Communiversity, led by Brookdale Community College, is an alliance of eight higher education institutions offering undergraduate and graduate degree and certificate programs to meet the expanding education needs of coastal New Jersey residents. The Communiversity is the first alliance of its kind in New Jersey and one of only a handful of such alliances nationwide.

Which colleges and universities are members of the Communiversity?
The eight charter members of the Communiversity are: Brookdale Community College, Georgian Court College, Kean University, Montclair State University, New Jersey Institute of Technology, New Jersey City University, Ocean County College and Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey.

What programs are offered at the Communiversity?
The Communiversity offers a range of associate, bachelor, master's degree and graduate certificates. For the 2003-2004 academic year, Brookdale will offer freshmen and sophomore level courses required for the associate degrees. Each of these associate degrees will transfer to specific bachelor's degrees offered at the Communiversity. The junior- and senior-level courses to complete the bachelor's degrees will be offered by one of the other member institutions. For a listing of current programs click here. Students with previous college credit should meet with Communiversity staff for assistance in selecting their program at the Communiversity.

How do I get started?
Communiversity staff are available to meet with students to assist them in getting started and selecting a program. Call 732-280-7090 (ext. 6007) to schedule an appointment.
To enroll in any of the Communiversity courses, a student must first be admitted to one of the member institutions offering degrees at the Communiversity. The institution to which a students is admitted is designated as the student's "home institution". Brookdale has open admissions and has articulation agreements to facilitate the transfer of Brookdale graduates to the baccalaureate programs; the other member institutions determine their own admission requirements.

What is the tuition?
Each member institution determines the tuition and fees to be charged for its programs. Six of the eight charter members are public higher education institutions. The one member that is a private college has discounted its tuition for Communiversity students.

What services are offered?
Most admissions, registration, career, and advising services are available for Brookdale students. Member institutions provide comparable services to their students using both on-site and remote modalities.

If a student already has an associate or bachelor's degree, can they still attend the Communiversity?
Yes. A student with an associate degree can enroll in a bachelor's degree program offered by one of the member institutions. Anyone with an appropriate bachelor's degree can enroll in one of the graduate degree programs.

Can a student begin at the Communiversity and complete on the home campus of a member institution?
In some cases; students must follow the rules and regulations of their home institution.

Will the students' transcripts and diploma be the same as those for students attending the main campus of each institution?
Yes, there will be no indication on the diploma that the courses were taken at the Communiversity.
